My idea is to implement a program in Albany that would be similar to Job Corp. Job Corp is a program for young adults ages 16-23 where they learn a trade and earn a high school diploma or GED.
My program would take 15 to 20 students from Albany High School that have the following:
- financial issue
- learning disability
- Will be kicked out of school because of age the next year
- Left back more than once
The students will go through various job trainings (leadership, communication, team building, etc.) and to a GED/Regents prep 3 times a week. The other two days of the week students will be placed at various internships (non-for-profit organizations) and with a portion of the grant money receive a monthly stipend.
Transportation will be provided for the students to go their to job sites and come to the program.
