I think the idea of celebs backing up certain campaign or political ideas can have both positive and negative aspects. I think that that on the positive side celebrities have the power, money and resources to really raise awareness about an idea or movement. Many people idolize certain celebrities an will really give to a cause if they are associated with it.
However this idolization can always be a negative thing. People may become involved or support something simply for the reason that their favorite celebrities are telling them to do so. They may not be aware of any aspects of the campaign or movement. They lose the ability to think for themselves and instead are motivated to do something not for those in need, but because they will be associated with cool famous people.
