Clearly celebrities backing causes is effective in many ways. They can use their money and public facade to raise populations that would not otherwise be reached. We all have something to fight for, and if people will listen and our info is accurate we should take that up.
In no way should anyone be obligated though. Simply because someone is famous we should have no higher expectations than anyone else to fight for causes. If I expect the average joe to write a letter or volunteer for a cause I expect the same of a celeb.
The unfortunate thing is that I'm scared that celebrities use their causes to raise their image and nothing else. This might be something we just have to accept and let go, because it usually does very much help the cause.
When celebrities back a cause I feel that it is effective because it gets the word out. People are more likely to listen celebrities than some random person on the street handing out pamphlets. I do not think they are obligated to use their fame to bring attention to social issues because they are regular people. Not everyone has heart to do community service or discuss social changes unless they are passionate about it. Personally when a celebrity is involve in a cause it does not make more interested unless I was already passionate about it prior.
Celebrities backing causes definitely brings more awareness to issues. I think that it is a celebrities right to choose what causes they support and how public they make their support. In some cases like caitlyn said celebrities are only backing causes because it's cool or makes them look better. However, I believe there are many celebs that are backing causes because they do truly care.
As far as politics I do not think celebrities should endorse candidates because it does have a big impact on who people choose to vote for. However it is also your responsibility to gather facts befored you draw conclusions about a candidate or a cause.
I think that celebrities play an important role in things like this. Personally, I think if there was a celebrity that I was very fond of and they began backing foundations and funds for things, I would totally participate in it as much as I could. In this sense, I think it is very effective for the public participation.
I don't honestly think that they should be obligated to doing this, but I think they should maybe be pressured to doing it. I mean they could look at the bright side of it too, they could be eligible for a Nobel Prize or something of that nature.
