I really don't know what to think about this. I mean I have nothing against gay people and I don't understand why they shouldn't be able to be open about it and be in the military? That is strange to me. Although I do not understand why they shouldn't, there is something inside of me that says they shouldn't. It is really weird. I am kind of speechless about this. I guess maybe this is why we have the Congressmen and the House to make up our minds for us. I am very indecisive.
Here is something to think about..
Is the military perpetuating homophobia in society or is the military just attempting to keep homosexuals serving our country safe because of how they are still viewed in our society?
Is our society ready to repeal "don't ask don't tell"? Why or why not?
I'm not really sure where I stand on this. I have nothing against homosexuals and personally don't think it should effect their eligibility to be in the military and open about it. The one thing I would like to hear more about before making a decision is facts from people that have done research for many years about the views of people in service and how they think having people that are openly gay serving would impact our military. It's really difficult to decide where I stand on this because the impact of allowing people to be openly gay in the military is very unclear.
The idea that people are trying to keep gays out of the military enrages me. As a country we say we are so accepting, look we have an African American president. But how can we consider our country accepting if we keep the "don't ask, don't tell" policy? I think that this policy provokes people to be homophobic. Any one who wants to serve our country and defend us should be able to do that and be open about their sexuality. I don't see how it would impact our military negatively. Gays would probably be more likely to join the forces because they would feel more welcomed.
I was unsure how to answer nicoles question. I believe that if you are homosexual or not it should not be a factor in your military involvement. I can see where there would be a problem if people are openly gay I think that should not be allowed since i think you are not allowed to have relationship???? or something to that effect
